Weekend in Review: Waited for Beanpot results again (yeah that’s it)

February 10, 2010

Lowell got demolished by BU and Merrimack this weekend. The Terriers won 3-2 and the Warriors 3-1. We’d say more but we don’t want to start bleeding from our ears trying to understand how the previous sentence is in any way true. To make up for it, BU lost to BC 4-3 in the Beanpot final after BC beat Amherst 7-1 on Friday. What’s that you say? Lowell plays the Eagles twice this weekend? Greaaaaaat.

Meanwhile the Warriors got punked out by Northeastern on Friday, 5-1, and the Huskies went on to beat Harvard in the Beanpot consolation game 4-1.

UNH blew a number of leads in Orono and were swept by Maine, 3-2 and 6-3, and Vermont took three points from Providence, winning 5-1 on Friday but settling for a 1-all draw the following night.
Our Weekly Awards
Player of the Week
John Muse, Boston College (junior goaltender) — Muse allowed just four goals on 77 shots between the Amherst game and the Beanpot final, so he seems as good a candidate as any.
(Honorable mention: Brian Gibbons, BC; Cam Atkinson, BC)

Rookie of the Week
Steve Whitney, Boston College (freshman forward) — Four points over two games will pretty much do it.
(Honorable mention: Stephane Da Costa, Merrimack; Sebastian Stalberg, Vermont)

Ham n Egger of the Weak
— Thank you for ruining our season.
(Honorable mention: Vermont)

National Polls
We have to discontinue this part for now. We don’t know what’s going on with this HTML the last few weeks. You used to be able to C&P right outta USCHO and it wouldn’t look terrible. Now, it’s a disaster. No idea what changed but it sucks and we hate it.

Lowell’s 20th now, for some hilarious, inexplicable reason, if that’s what you’re wondering.
