Weekend in Review: Criiiipes

January 19, 2010

Lowell lost to Amherst twice. A 3-2 road loss Friday, a 2-1 loss in Lowell Saturday. We’d say more but we might then have to formulate some sort of murder-suicide pact, and we don’t want to deal with the police even in death.

So then, let’s have a look at the other results in Hockey East including Providence surprisingly taking four points from BU on Friday (3-1) and Maine on Saturday (3-2), though earlier in the week it had lost to BC 4-1. The Eagles also did well on the weekend, having pummeled Maine 6-1.

BU was one of three Hockey East teams that at least earned a split, beating Merrimack 6-4. The other two two-point weekends were between Northeastern and Vermont as the Huskies prevailed 3-1 Friday before being trampled 9-2.

The only non-league game of the week saw UNH beat Dartmouth 5-2.

Our Weekly Awards
Player of the Week
Cam Atkinson, BC (sophomore forward) — He had like five points or something and unlike James Marcou, he likely did not flop all over the ice at the slightest bit of contact this weekend. Good work Cam!
(Honorable mention: Jeremy Dehner, Lowell; Brayden Irwin, Vermont)

Rookie of the Week
Wade Megan, BU (freshman defenseman) — He had three points. Hockey East gave this award to Sebastian Stalberg because he had a goal and an assist. Note: Megan’s team scored nine goals in two games this weekend, while Stalberg’s scored nine goals in just one of them. How is Megan’s total not more impressive?
(Honorable mention: Sebastian Stalberg, Vermont)

Ham n Egger of the Weak
Lowell
— Ugh.
(Honorable mention: Lowell’s discipline; Lowell’s offense; Everything about Lowell that was not its goaltending and defense)

National Polls
We have to discontinue this part for now. We don’t know what’s going on with this HTML the last few weeks. You used to be able to C&P right outta USCHO and it wouldn’t look terrible. Now, it’s a disaster (see last week’s WiR). No idea what changed but it sucks and we hate it.

Lowell’s 19th now, as it probably should be, if that’s what you’re wondering.

Noteworthy Hockey East Weekly Awards
None.

no, you do it because you guys can’t bring yourselves to admit that you are not THE UMass.

which must be why we never use the prefix “umass” in front of “lowell” because frankly we resent the association. but no, you must be right. we don’t know why we do things.
