Weekend in review: Later than Hockey East’s

January 12, 2010

As you well know, Lowell had a pretty good weekend, drawing UNH 2-all in Durham before putting down the Huskies (do you get it?) 6-5 in OT the following night in Boston. They even did so despite an almost total lack of team discipline and in fact blew a pair of third-period leads. But yes, three points.

Lowell’s opponents also had took on UMass Amherst in the same venues, and UNH beat them 7-2 but Northeastern dropped their Sunday game 4-1 and looked really bad doing it.

Elsewhere, Maine beat Merrimack 4-2 in Orono and in some game at some venue that was neither Agganis Arena nor Conte Forum, BU beat BC 3-2.

Our Weekly Awards
Player of the Week
Scott Campbell, Lowell (junior forward) — We’ve been waiting for this kind of weekend from Soup. Five points, an important goal, etc. etc. etc. He hasn’t been great this season, and we’ve been hard on him for that but we loved his play this weekend.
(Honorable mention: Kory Falite, Lowell; Mike Scheu, Lowell)

Rookie of the Week
Jake Newton, Northeastern (freshman defenseman) — Lowell bump here for sure. Just a goal and an assist, but man does this kid kill Lowell. He also had the game-winner in the Dartmouth tourney.
(Honorable mention: Wade Megan, BU)

Ham n Egger of the Weak
Steve Silva
— We never liked this kid very much. He played like a punk Saturday night and he played like a punk on Sunday.
(Honorable mention: Lowell’s discipline)
