This just in: Massie gone

TJ Massie, Lowell’s highly-regarded freshman goaltender, has left the team and will join the USHL’s Tri-City Storm for its games this weekend.

We got wind of this move earlier this month when the USHL’s transactions page had listed the roster addition as that of a forward named Thomas Massie, which is Massie’s actual first name, but attempts to confirm the story with the Storm via e-mail were met with a firm, “No comment,” until the player had officially joined the team.

Massie, who never got much playing time with Lowell even with Carter Hutton out for more than a month, was 1-1-0 in two games with a 3.76 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage. The thought here is that this is just a move to get Massie additional seasoning against good competition in the top US junior hockey league. Tri-City’s roster already boasts recruits for North Dakota, BU, Minnesota State, Clarkson, Notre Dame, Princeton, Vermont, Union, Yale, Nebraska Omaha and Alaska Anchorage.

No word yet on how this affects Massie’s status with Lowell going forward, or, indeed if Hutton will be suiting up tomorrow against BU.
