Offseason Update No. 2: Schedule released

June 3, 2008

UML just released next year’s full official schedule. There are some interesting things to take from this.

As far as non-conference games go, the first and most obvious series of note is the trip to Michigan State early in the season. This is another of those team-building road trips that Coach MacDonald likes to start the ‘Hawks out with every year. It’s worked so far, and playing a strong team like 2007 national champions Michigan State is always a good thing.

In early January, Lowell gets a rematch with Minnesota-Duluth in the Lightning College Classic down in Tampa, and will play either national runners up Notre Dame or Union the next night.

Lowell also plays at Colgate to open the regular season, and later hosts a pair of unwatchable team in Bentley and RIT.

As far as the bulk of the conference schedule goes, here’s how it breaks down.

Providence: Oct. 24, Nov. 21, @Jan. 10
UVM: Nov. 8, @Feb. 20, @Feb. 21
UNH: Nov. 14, Dec. 5, @Dec. 6
UMass: @Nov. 15, Jan. 17, @Feb. 7
NU: Nov. 22, @Feb. 27, Feb. 28
Merrimack: @Nov. 25, Jan. 23, @Jan. 24
BU: Nov. 7, @Dec. 12, @Feb. 6
BC: @Jan. 16, @Feb. 13, Feb. 14
Maine: @Jan. 30, March 6, March 7

There’s more of that fantastic Hockey East scheduling for you. What you might have noticed is that Lowell has exactly three home games from Dec. 6 to Feb. 27. You might have also noticed that once again Lowell wraps the regular season with a pair against Maine, as it has for three of the last five seasons. Also, there are only 15 home dates this year (not including the exhibition), down from 20 last season.

Looking forward to this season starting. Some tough games on the docket, but I think if this team really wants to make some noise, they’ll have a chance. And they’ll have a chance to prove things to others as well.
