Weekend in Review: Blame the AD
Lowell predictably completed a sweep of Amherst, which is a terrible team in an awful place, with wins of 6-3 on the road Friday and 3-2 at home on Saturday. Never has a more pathetic Hockey East program existed.
Meanwhile, a few other teams had weekends that were almost as good. Vermont swept Northeastern, 2-1 and 3-1 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, but since we’ve been saying since October that Northeastern is the worst team in the league this year, this should come as no surprise.
Merrimack also had a good weekend, taking a 2-1 overtime win from BC on Friday in North Andover before staging an improbable comeback at Providence on Sunday to earn a 2-all draw. BC also played to a tie on Sunday, against UNH, 4-4 at the Heights.
Finally, BU took three of four points from Maine in Orono with a 3-3 tie on Friday and a 5-4 overtime win the next night.
Our Weekly Awards
Player of the Week
Derek Arnold, Lowell (junior forward) — This is the DA we remember. Three goals and two assists, backed up by strong all-around performances. He’s been very good lately to begin with, and now seems to be getting better after an ugly first half. We’ll take it!
(Honorable mention: Riley Wetmore, Lowell)
Rookie of the Week
Christian Folin, Lowell — We’ve been singing Folin’s praises for some time now, obviously, but this was another big weekend. A shorthanded goal? Three assists? He’s on 14 points in his last 14 games.
(Honorable mention: Connor Hellebuyck, Lowell)
Ham n Egger of the Weak
Amherst — Goes without saying, really.
(Honorable mention: BC)
